American eels in Rockport’s Mill Brook: A hike from the ocean to the headwaters

This event will be an approximately 2 hour guided hike/tour focused on the migratory pathway of American eels in Rockport’s Mill Brook.  The walk will start where eels enter Mill Brook at Front Beach continue upstream to the foraging and growth habitat located further upstream in this small watershed.  The walking tour will include discussion about eel monitoring, the new eelway and past and current threats to eels passage and habitat quality throughout the watershed.

Parking is available along King Street which is perpendicular to Beach Street where the hike will depart.  Meeting location will be right at Front Beach where Mill brook enters the ocean!

Registration will open 3 weeks prior to the event.  As always, please wear proper hiking footwear and bring water; also poles if you use them. At this time of year, be prepared for wet and muddy conditions.

In the event of rain or snow, the hike may be cancelled, and an email notification will go out at 8 AM the day of the hike.

Registration is limited to 12.  Please register early to ensure a spot, and if you cannot make it, please cancel your reservation, so others on the “wait list” can attend.   Please do not be a “no show.”
